MEETING OF THE ORGANIZING COMMITTEE FOR THE ASCENT OF MOUNT ELBRUS

21 Jul 2017 was held in Nalchik the meeting of the organizing Committee on preparation and holding of the 2017 international alpiniada devoted to the 100th anniversary of the great October socialist revolution and the 50th anniversary mass ascent of mount Elbrus. In a meeting held at Government House under the chairmanship of Deputy Prime Minister of Kabardino-Balkaria T. B. Akhokhov, participated the General Secretary of the International Advisory Committee of organizations of reserve officers (IАC) Anatoly Kumakhov who climbed Elbrus 1967.

Chairman of The Organizing Committee T. B. Akhokhov reported that offers from several organizations (the State Duma, the Parliament of Kabardino-Balkaria, the international Advisory Committee of organizations of reserve officers together with the National Association "Megapir", "Spetspromtekh", the Public Council under the Ministry of defense of Russia and Kabardino-Balkarian branch of "Russian geographical society") to hold the ascent, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the great October socialist revolution and the 50th anniversary mass ascent of mount Elbrus was supported by the Head of Kabardino-Balkaria Y.A. Kokov, the order of the Government of KBR to form a joint organizing Committee for the preparation and the organizing Committee for the preparation and successful carrying out of this tough event.

T. B. Akhokhov, who briefed the members of the organizing Committee and invited on the preparation of large and complex events. Priority is given to safety of participants and the creation of all necessary conditions for its success. This involved all relevant services and ministries of the Republic, the administration of the Elbrus municipal district and the village of Terskol. Directly monitoring compliance with rules and procedures training and climbing will exercise specialists Alpine search and rescue team of Emercom of Russia in Kabardino-Balkar Republic, which has extensive experience in conducting such events. Information provision is vested in the Department for interaction with mass media of the Ministry of culture of the Republic.

In his speech at the meeting of A. Kumakhov briefed about the readiness of the group IAC and "Specpromtekh" (16 people) to begin training for the ascent, gave brief information about the organizations-members of the group IAC and "Megapir", its members. The organizing Committee approved A. Kumakhov samples of merchandise, prepared for the ascent.

Training (training sessions, adaptation) and the ascent of Elbrus is scheduled from 1 to 14 August 2017 Participants on the physical and other indicators will be divided into two groups: "A" is climbing to the top by light with the use of technical means and "B," the assault team will work out the route on the Western and Eastern peaks without the use of mechanical means.

Direct date of ascension will be determined by weather conditions between 9 and 12 August.The purpose of the event is promotion and further development of mountaineering and tourism as an important means of Patriotic education, strengthening the physical training and health improvement of applied skills of excellence. Provides holding 2 press conferences (before and after the event), as well as a rally at the Monument to the fallen heroes of the great Patriotic war in the settlement Terskol (on a separate plan).

For reference: In July of 1967. it organized a mass ascent of mount Elbrus, on the 50th anniversary of the October Revolution. The ascent had been working out for about 2500 people.
